at the wheel

Another day for mortal man, another round for the common man
He tastes his lips then drinks the water from the cup of life
Shadows dance and colors play, still he cannot differentiate
One day from the rest, so sad

Man sits blind, yet he has eyes, but has he no more dreams to realize
Can't he understand the fragile gift that warms his hands
Time is not a given, death beyond our vision
Till the days it flashes closer than a breath away

So have a drink o’mortal man
Become a bullet with your hands upon the wheel
Racing faster through time
Live the days before you as you would have them be
Tomorrow's an eternity away, God gives and God takes away

Black and white moments as a siren dies and a father cries
Red and white canvas jackets circle around the sleeping children
White and white explode as the camera men are escorted by
Blinding light flashes as the searchlight pinpoints the driver's cup of life

So have a drink o’mortal man
Keep your wheels spinning
Faster down the mountain to the innocent
And push it harder if you can, until the well is dry
Then gently close your eyes to the veil of night

Something pulling her from sleep
Dripping candle wax upon her palms
And the pain runs deep
The there’s nothing but the wind
And the earth descending
Far away below into the stars
And someone reaching out with open arms
