dnash – Saint Cloud Mine
demo submission for Granite City Days
i was born in a place far away from the wide open spaces
a farmer’s daughter’s daughter, and minnesota proud
and i was raised from cities of lights to the darkest jungle
but my heart was never home, and though i thought it would always roam
where east meets west on the wide prairie
was a frontier town by the mississippi
just waiting for me to find
and i won’t forget the day i took the northern line
and i saw the granite city for the very first time
i knew i was hers
and i knew she’d be mine
while country living is all about giving the best of our nature
elbow room isn’t everything a body needs
we’ve got Lake George park, we’ve got music and arts, we’ve got Radio City
we’ve got everything we need, every colour, every creed
we’re the bleeding edge of society
they can say what they want in the new york times
but they’ve never seen the cloud when she’s dressed to the nines
and honey, they don’t understand
manhattan’s only got one dairy queen
we’ve got two plus Val’s, and everything in between
right here in our hands
we’ve even got our own superman
from old Saint Cloud in Paris town to my home on the prairie
i’ve seen a million places in between
like for so many others, this place gives me cover from a world uncaring
if i did it all again, there couldn’t be a sweeter end
i wish you all could see
where east meets west on the wide prairie
stands a frontier town by the mississippi
just waiting for you to find
no you won’t regret the day you take the northern the line
and you see the granite city for the very first time
and you feel what i feel, small town Saint Cloud living is a great big deal
where east meets west
just waiting for you to find
don’t catch the blues they call the news in the star tribune
life in the Cloud put me over the moon
it’s the busy, gritty, granite city for me….
